You set up a second factor in your **profile settings**. Fynex supports an **authenticator app (TOTP)** and **passkeys**. A second factor protects your sign-in, and it's **required to approve payouts** — because approving a payout releases real money, that action always needs it.

## Your options

- **Authenticator app (TOTP)** — scan a QR code with an app like Google Authenticator or 1Password, then enter the 6-digit code it generates. You'll enter a fresh code when prompted.
- **Passkey** — use your device's built-in security (fingerprint, face, or device PIN). A passkey is phishing-resistant and quick to use for payout approvals.

## Set it up

1. Go to **Profile settings** and open the security section.
2. Choose **authenticator app** or **passkey** and follow the prompts.
3. Keep your recovery details safe so you don't get locked out.

Once it's set up, you'll use it to sign in and to approve payouts. See [Why do I need 2FA or a passkey to approve a payout?](/docs/payouts/why-do-i-need-2fa-or-a-passkey-to-approve-a-payout/)
