You add a payee in **Split payments → Payees → Create**, give them a name and a **role** (such as seller, contractor, or tax), and they become available in your split rules. Before a payee can receive their first payout, they're **verified individually** — the same kind of identity and business check your own account went through.

## Add a payee

1. Go to **Split payments → Payees** and choose **Create**.
2. Enter their details and pick a **role** — this is how you organise who's a seller, a contractor, or a tax recipient in your splits.
3. Save. The payee can now be included in split rules.

## Verification before the first payout

Splitting money into a payee's wallet doesn't require them to be verified — but **paying it out to their bank does**. Each payee completes an individual verification first. This protects you and them, and it's why a brand-new payee's first payout may wait until their check clears.

What a payee needs mirrors [what your own business provided](/docs/getting-started/what-documents-do-i-need-to-verify-my-business/): identity for the person, and business details where the payee is a company.
