You can check a split two ways before it touches real money: **preview** the rule to see how a sample payment would divide, and run a **test payment** in test mode to watch the split happen end to end.

## Preview a rule

While building or editing a split rule, use the **preview** to enter a sample amount and see the exact breakdown — how much each payee gets, how caps and priorities apply, and where any remainder goes. It's the fastest way to confirm the maths before you activate the rule. See [What happens when a split doesn't add up?](/docs/split-payments/what-happens-when-a-split-doesnt-add-up/)

## Test it with a real payment

For full confidence, run a [test payment](/docs/getting-started/how-do-i-test-payments-before-going-live/) against the rule in test mode. The split executes just as it would live, so you can see the money land in each payee's wallet — without any real funds moving.
