A **wallet** is a balance held inside Fynex, in a specific currency. When you take a payment or run a split, money lands in a wallet; when you pay out, money leaves a wallet for a real bank account. You'll have your own wallet, and each payee has one too. Every movement is recorded as a ledger entry, so balances always add up.

## How money flows

1. **In** — a customer payment (or the share from a split) credits a wallet.
2. **Held** — the balance sits in the wallet until you move it. You can hold a balance per currency.
3. **Out** — a payout debits the wallet and sends the money to a bank account. See [How do I add a bank account for payouts?](/docs/payouts/how-do-i-add-a-bank-account-for-payouts/)

## Why balances always reconcile

Fynex records every credit and debit as a paired entry (double-entry bookkeeping), so a wallet's balance is always the exact sum of what came in minus what went out. That's what lets [reconciliation](/features/reconciliation/) match every payout back to the payments behind it.

## A note on currency

Wallets are per-currency, and a payout must be in the **same currency** as the wallet it comes from. If you hold a balance in one currency and need to pay in another, that's a currency conversion step, not a direct payout.
