If money is on hold, it's tied to a **specific, reviewable reason** — not an arbitrary freeze. A hold happens for one of a few reasons: an incoming payment was flagged by a risk check, a payment or payout is in a routine compliance review, or a new bank account is being verified before its first use. Whatever the reason, you can see which it is and find out where it stands.

## Find the reason

Where the money is tells you what kind of hold it is:

- **An incoming payment is held.** A risk or compliance check paused it. Legitimate payments usually clear on their own; if one stays held, [contact support](/docs/account-and-team/how-do-i-contact-fynex-support/) and we'll look at it with you.
- **A payout is waiting.** It may need approval by a teammate, be in a compliance review, or be in normal bank processing. Each has a different fix — see [Why is my payout pending or on hold?](/docs/payouts/why-is-my-payout-pending-or-on-hold/)
- **A new payout account is pending.** First-time bank accounts are reviewed before use — see [Why is my new payout account "pending approval"?](/docs/payouts/why-is-my-new-payout-account-pending-approval/)

## How Fynex is different

The stories people dread — [an account frozen overnight, no explanation, no one to ask](/blog/fintech-froze-my-funds-what-to-do/) — come from platforms where a hold is a black box. Fynex isn't built that way. Your money is held under FCA safeguarding rules, holds are tied to a named check, and there's a real support team you can reach who can tell you exactly what a hold is waiting on. See [Where is my money held and how is it protected?](/docs/account-and-team/where-is-my-money-held-and-how-is-it-protected/)

## What helps

If a hold is reviewing a large or unusual payment, having the backing paperwork ready speeds things up — the invoice, the signed order or estimate, and who the customer is. You can send these to support to help clear a review faster.
