Platform fee
A platform fee (or application fee) is the cut a marketplace keeps from each transaction — its take rate — deducted before sellers are paid out.
A platform fee — also called an application fee or take rate — is the share a marketplace keeps from each transaction that flows through it. It’s deducted from the buyer’s payment before the rest is paid out to the seller.
How it works
- The platform sets its model: a flat fee, a percentage of the sale, or a tiered rate.
- On each sale, the fee is taken at the moment of settlement as part of the split.
- What’s left is the seller’s, and moves on to a marketplace payout.
Because the fee is taken at settlement, the platform never has to invoice its own sellers for it — it’s already kept.
Why it matters
The take rate is often a marketplace’s core revenue line. Charging it cleanly — visibly, consistently, and traceably back to the books — is what keeps sellers trusting the platform and keeps finance able to explain every number.
How Fynex does it
Fynex lets you set your take rate once, keep your cut at the moment of sale, and see every fee traceable back to the transaction it came from. See platform commission.
