Stripe Connect

Stripe Connect is Stripe's product for platforms and marketplaces that need to onboard sellers, split payments and pay out to third parties.

Stripe Connect is the part of Stripe built for platforms and marketplaces — businesses that don’t just take their own payments but move money on behalf of others: onboarding sellers, taking a platform fee, and paying third parties out.

How it works

  • The platform onboards each seller as a connected account.
  • Payments come in, and Connect handles the split between platform and seller.
  • Stripe pays the seller out to their bank on a schedule.

It’s a capable, widely used building block — and for many platforms it’s the default first choice.

Why it matters

Connect made platform payments accessible, but it’s built around Stripe’s single-commission model and its own rails. Multi-party splits, holding funds in escrow, cost-optimised routing across corridors, and acting as merchant of record are where platforms often reach its edges and start comparing alternatives.

How Fynex does it

Fynex covers the same platform jobs — seller onboarding, splits, payouts — but with multi-party splits, fund-holding as an FCA-authorised EMI, and cheapest-rail routing built in. See how they compare in Stripe Connect alternatives.
