Authorize now, capture later

Place a hold on the card at checkout and capture the payment when you're ready — when the order ships, the service completes, or the final amount is confirmed. Full or partial capture, on your timing.

The problem

The card says yes today, but you shouldn't charge until you deliver

Deposits, pre-orders, and as-incurred billing all need the same thing: confirm the card now, take the money later. But a raw card authorization expires in about a week, so builders end up re-authorizing, saving cards and hoping the charge lands, or just charging early and refunding the difference.

What Fynex runs

How delayed capture runs on Fynex

Separate the promise to pay from the moment you take the money.

01

Authorize at checkout

Place a hold when the buyer checks out, so you know the card is good and the funds are reserved — before you've shipped or delivered a thing.

02

Capture when you're ready

Capture the full amount, a partial amount, or capture more than once as the order fulfils — on your schedule, not the card network's expiry clock.

03

Release what you don't take

Capture only what's owed and release the rest of the hold, so the buyer is never charged for more than they got.

How we compare

The same job, with the leaks closed

Point tools solve part of it. Fynex runs the whole thing on one platform.

FAQ

Questions, answered

Delayed capture is a two-step card payment: you authorize the card at checkout (placing a hold that confirms the funds), then capture the money later — when the order ships, the service is delivered, or the final amount is known. It's the standard pattern for deposits, pre-orders and as-incurred billing.
Authorizing places a hold on the buyer's card and confirms the funds are available, but moves no money. Capturing actually takes the payment. Fynex lets you separate the two, so you can authorize now and capture later — in full, in part, or across several captures against one authorization.
A raw card authorization typically expires in around a week, which is why builders hit walls holding longer. Fynex handles the hold so you can capture on your own timing rather than racing the card network's expiry — and for delivery- or milestone-based flows you can hold the funds themselves as escrow instead.
Yes. Capture the full amount, a partial amount, or capture more than once as an order fulfils, and release any part of the hold you don't use — so the buyer is never charged for more than they actually received.
